I am a 35 year old computer design engineer, living in Stockport, about 10 Miles south of Manchester in the North West of England.
I work for ICL High
Performance Systems at West Gorton, Manchester,
developing VLSI Integrated Circuits for use in Mainframe Computers.
My works EMAIL address is gsb@wg.icl.co.uk .
As well as fiddling with PC's and exploring the net, I like to entertain myself with the following:
I don't have anything to do with the brewing industry, but you may have guessed from the internet address that I do spend a little time 'at the pub', tasting (well, drinking, actually) the odd pint of beer or two.
I've created an Online Database of British Real Ales, in which I've attempted to list details of all the British Beers I could find details for. Do let me know if I've missed out your favourite!
I'm a member of the Campaign For Real Ale, the consumer organisation dedicated to the diversity and quality of British Beers.
If you are very unlucky, you may hear me on the airwaves using the callsign G0HJQ. I have a British class 'A' licence. This means I am allowed to transmit on any Amateur Band in the Shortwave, VHF, UHF or microwave bands, using any type of transmission including voice, TV, data and even morse code (Yes, a lot of radio amateurs still get a lot of enjoyment from sending morse code)
During the summer months, you may also hear us competing in the RSGB 'Backpackers' VHF Contests, using the callsign G0HAC/P. Please give us a call - every point is most welcome!
I am a member of the 'Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain', and enjoy visiting theme parks and riding as many different coasters as possible. Last year, I went on a tour of central America with the club, riding around 70 coasters, from Houston, Texas, up to Cedar Point, Ohio.
Yep, I've done a bit of this. I hold the PADI Advanced Open Water certificate. It's great fun in the clear waters of the Mediteranean. I still don't think that England is the best place for diving - somehow, getting up at 5 O'Clock on Sunday morning to dive in the freezing cold, poluted waters of the North Sea doesn't seem to be the best way to spend a weekend. Perhaps I'm getting too old?
